I went up to see the Eastern Point Lighthouse in Gloucester yesterday (Thursday). I didn't intend to when I left home, but on the way - up around Manchester on 128 North - I noticed a large light pale purple fog bank on the horizon.. I took a chance and headed to Eastern Point to see if I could walk the long breakwater in the fog and maybe get some pics. It did not disappoint. The fog was so thick that I couldn't see the other end of the breakwater - and - when I walked out to the end of it, I couldn't see the lighthouse. In the middle, I was surrounded by fog with only an idling boat engine and a fog horn for company. When people walked away from me on the breakwater, they would slowly become swallowed up by the fog and would simply fade to nothing as they walked further and further into it. Just like life - people fading away - disappearing. It was quite beautiful. |
