In order to get to Eastern Point Light, you'll need to travel through a very (very) wealthy section of Gloucester on a private road. Sometimes during the summer, the wealthy who live there hire private police to stop and question people at the entrance to the access road. The pri-po also make sure that speed limits are adhered to and none of the wealthy residents' possessions get stolen by lower class people rat-tat-tootling along in their dinged-up, four-cylinder, high mileage, Camry's.

Even though the wealthy residents' possessions may be secure, they still must bear the indignities of letting lowers actually use their road and glance out at their views and mar their neighborhood with - commonness...

You fellow lowers will quickly get the message that you don't belong among your (very much) betters... but don't be dissuaded. Passing through grim exclusivity on the way to the lighthouse adds to the thrill doesn't it? - Still having public access to a scrap of shoreline that the uppers have not managed to buy and monetize... get your small, simple, pleasures when and where you can these days.

And - bonus - the view from the breakwater is spectacular..
