Hallelujah

My Godfather Leonard Cohen has a new movie out about his most famous song "Hallelujah." It's only in movie theaters now, so I've not seen it.. I look forward to its streaming release..

Leonard and I never met (of course), and he never knew he became my Godfather on a day in 1990 when, sitting in a movie theater watching the Christian Slater movie "Pump Up The Volume" the tone arm dropped on a scratchy recording of "Everybody Knows."

Boom. That was it.

Over the years, my family, friends and coworkers had alternatively been exasperated with me, or simply teased me about my dark outlook... (like I had a choice)

But there in that darkened movie theater in 1990 came Leonard's sepulchral voice singing "Everybody Knows", expressing things I had thought and felt forever..

Thunderstruck.

I wasn't crazy. I wasn't stupid.

Leonard helped get me through decades at The Joe Big-Ass Corp and my Tech-Bro-Let's-Change-The-World career. He helps me still in that way that happens when somebody else says "I see what you see too."

"It's a cold, and it's a broken Hallelujah...."
