Innumerable labors

The beginning of a Buddhist Meal Chant goes like this:

Innumerable labors brought us this food;
We should know how it comes to us.
Receiving this offering, we should consider
Whether our virtue and practice deserve it.

I feel the same way about the "found art" I encounter every day. I don't take it for granted. It is always a surprise to find such completely unselfconscious, evocative, work - hiding in plain sight.

Innumerable labors brought us this art;
We should know how it comes to us.
Receiving this offering, we should consider
Whether our virtue and practice deserve it.

I know that my "virtue and practice" don't come close to deserving these brushes with creation. Still, I try to honor them as best I can with the tools at hand - gratitude, attention, and care in preserving their memories.

I beg to differ....
