Merely Exaggerated

Lotus - Glen Magna

As a rule the tales which get abroad in the world are false - perhaps because the truth is not interesting enough?

People always exaggerate things. More so, when months and years have passed and the place is distant do they relate any story they please, or even it put down in writing, so that at last it becomes established fact.

Anyhow, it is a world that is full of lies, and we shall make no mistake if we make up our minds that what we hear is really not at all strange and unusual but merely exaggerated in the telling."

Essays in Idleness: The Tsurezuregusa of Kenkō  (Early to mid 14th century)

Nothing has changed in eight hundred or so years..

Whether it's a Game Show Host cosplaying President or a self-aggrandizing tech-bro taking credit for work he never did, lies abound.  Lies upon lies upon lies upon lies.

I ran into the tech-bro lies last night while reading one of his posts on social media. I was tempted to publicly correct him. Thankfully - I just deleted all of my social media accounts instead in order to keep myself from tuning him up. I was still considering it today but conversation with Doff and a sibling convinced me not to do it..

After deciding to not publicly shame the tech-bro, I went into my office and opened up my RSS feed reader... There it was - the Yoshida Kenko quote...

I swear to the Sky Dad..
