While drawing at the kitchen table:

"Papa, if you scribble-scrabble (his expression) on the table, you will get a time-out, so you need to draw on the paper."

"Thanks for the heads-up, Ray. Did you ever get a time-out for scribble-scrabbling on the table?"

(softly) "Yeah..."

Just out of the blue on a phone call:

"Papa, if you can lick your boogers off your top lip, it's time for a tissue."

During a conversation I was having with Ray's younger Sister, Zoey:

Me: ZoZo, waddya doing? You can't pick that up, kid, it's too heavy. (She was trying to lift her diaper bag which weighs at least half her body weight)

Ray: (Sternly - he is completely comfortable with speaking to me in a stern - somewhat parental - tone) Papa - my sister is not a kid, she's a baby.

Me: Sorry Ray. You're right. ZoZo is a baby.

Ray: (emphasizing his point) Yah Papa. I am a Kid. ZoZo is too little to be a Kid. She is a Baby.

Me:  Got it. Thanks Ray.
