These tiny birds, Chickadees, Tufted Titmouses, and Nuthatches follow you whenever your path crosses through low brush. They perch on branches nearby and stare at you as if to say "Well - where's the seed, buddy?" Other birds that are not quite so bold will watch you from a higher branch or deeper in the brush. I've had to tell them "I'm sorry, beautiful birds, I don't have anything tasty with me today." They were not mollified by the transparent flattery. After a couple of trips, I learned my lesson and I don't come empty-handed anymore. Instead - I carry sunflower seeds that I got from the local farm Co-Op. This last time, dozens of tiny birds landed on my hand, selected a promising looking seed and darted off.. If you've not hand-fed a tiny bird, you must. It is the sweetest thing. Their tiny feet grasp your hand with the lightest of pressure. They weigh nearly nothing.. It is simply the best to have such an eensy creature trust you enough to actually make contact - even if only for a few seconds.
