Joseph Ratzinger, much-beloved conservative thought leader and senior manager in the Roman Catholic Church Corp died at the age of 95. No doubt there will be glowing obits about Joe. This will not be one of them. Joe slow-walked and otherwise obstructed clergy sex-abuse claims and outright hid them from public view until things blew up, forcing his hand. Joe referred to Buddhism as auto-erotic spirituality that seeks "transcendence without imposing concrete religious obligations.” - a patently ignorant statement from the mouth of a man who was supposed to be a towering intellect.. Joe also considered Buddhism to be a greater threat to the church than Marxism. Many will mourn his passing. I'm happy for it. Of course, the Boyz Club in Rome is growing shiny new Ratzingers at this very moment, so it will be hardly any time at all until another one takes his place. Like rust, ignorance never sleeps. ~ |
