It was a cloudy, raw day at The Refuge yesterday. An astronomical high tide flooded much of the salt marsh. In places, the inland sea lapped at the very edge of the road - a subtle display about how puny we are.. There were a half-dozen hawks wheeling about looking for food, which I think may have been scarce due to the flooding..

Sister Wind made things seem colder than the 39F it was. I was just warm enough in the thin, flapping, pants and light jacket I had on. Sister worked her magic with the Sea Queen's satin shore break, tearing off their tops and making glorious manes of them. On a sunny day, they would have been rainbows.

It was Ralphie's first time up to The Refuge. Apparently Liam had been regaling him with Carl's tales of "off-roading" - what Carl used to call driving on the dirt road to Sandy point - And so - Ralphie was a bit disappointed that part of The Refuge was closed because of the snow. I told him that it's possible that the snow will all melt from the rain we are about to get.. That cheered him considerably.
