Three months have gone by practicing the intermittent-fasting (8:16) low carb (50g / day) eating regimen. I have lost 34lbs. Even more importantly - the bloodwork I had done in April showed all my blood markers (A1C, cholesterol, blood glucose level) to be back solidly in the normal range - so - not diabetic - not even pre-diabetic. My Doctor was amazed (his word) with the reversal. Another positive bit of progress is that I've been able to go through stressful, aggravating episodes out in the world along with enduring grinding chronic pain at night and have not fallen back on using food to blot out the stress and pain.. Of course - as anyone who sees me on a daily basis knows, there is still a long way to go.. My current weight is 231. That weight coupled with my (age-shrinking) height still puts me ever so slightly in the "obese" category when calculating BMI.. I'll have to get to at least 185 before I am in the "normal body weight" category.. That will require losing 46 more pounds.. As encouraging as all this is - I am constantly aware of all my past failures, as I'm sure you all are too. And so - for me this is not a moment for celebration, but for a careful accounting of what has gone on.. Because - there is always this out there, patiently stalking my every step... ~ |
