"Bearskin Neck - Rockport MA"
Canon G7x Mark II
Snapseed
Glaze
Last night, I felt the need to get out of the house.
I drove up to Gloucester to drive through
the fish pier and to Rockport to walk
around Bearskin Neck. It was a
blustery, cold walk. The
coat I wore was warm
enough... but only
just. The thin
gloves I
had
on
worked for
the first few minutes
and then it was like I was
bare-handed against a raw
November wind.
Rockport was deserted except for
a couple of high-school kids and one
other young couple. Most of the time I
was alone, and in a marked change in
situations like these, I was lonely.
It surprised me, because I am
often alone when out
walking and taking
pictures, but
I am never
lonely.
I don't know what it was..
maybe all the shops
with Christmas
decorations.
Maybe it
was just
being
in a
deserted
place that is
normally teeming
with people..
Maybe it was the nagging
sense of things about
to go very wrong..
I walked up the end of Bearskin Neck to
the breakwater. The tip of the Neck
was so dark it was as if I was
walking into space. As soon
as I was enclosed in the
darkness, the clearing
sky above revealed
so.many.stars.
Beautiful.
Even the Seven Sisters
were out, winking
from 444 light-
years away..
And the lights of the houses
across the cove shone like
jewels on the water.
