Historically, nothing has been more dear to citizens of the 'Merrkan Empire than the concept of "Liberty." Liberty is one of those abstract ideas that has spurred some 'Merrkins to give their very lives for it or encourage others to give their lives in support of it. To wit: On November 13, 1787 in a note to Colonel William S. Smith, revered slave-owner and inventor Thomas Jefferson wrote "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." (It goes without saying that Thomas, being a wealthy land owner, meant for others to use their blood to do the refreshing with - not his own precious blood... but that's a bigger topic..) In 21st century 'Merrka, the right to own guns has eclipsed everything else in importance - even the gauzy concept of Liberty.. We have, in practice if not words, adapted Thomas' famous Liberty quote in aid of gun ownership. Although none of my conservative fellow citizens would ever give voice to this adaptation, we, as a festering carbuncle of a nation, act it out in real life - year after year. As horrifying as it is - this is our Gun-America philosophy: "The tree of gun ownership rights must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of our children." If it has somehow escaped your notice because you are otherwise occupied with daydreams of our inherent goodness or the newest streaming platform, allow me to share a heartfelt conviction about gun rights in 'Merrka: We are a sprawling tribe of grotesque barbarian pigs. Over and over and over again we sacrifice what we claim is most important to us, our children. We sacrifice them screaming and crying, terrified, calling for their mothers just so we can have our weapons. |
