Some weeks ago the F/V Orion's engine room flooded
with the overflow from an overfilled water tank.
Since then, the vessel has received a new
motor so that it could return to active
fishing. Yesterday, while approaching the boat,
I heard the familiar rumble of an arc-welder generator
and the snap, crackle, pop of a welding bead
being laid down. Peering down over the edge
of the pier I was able to capture the welder, hard at
work, crouched low over his work, his mask
illuminated by the too-bright too-white
welding sparks..
