No Escape

Some take in the afternoon light. Some check their phones.

There really is no escaping un-asked-for
feedback on this broken-down body.
When it was obese, I got diet tips.
I listened to stories about
encounters with fatties
and how disgusting
they were with
their sweating
and their
breathing and
their ponderous waddling..

I pretended to be enthused at
endless anecdotes about other
people who lost weight.
"You wouldn't even
know him."
was a
phrase
I got very
familiar
with.

Now that this body is simply overweight,
I get faux-concern about losing
too much weight. "Do you
think you have an eating
disorder?" and "OK.
you've lost a lot of
weight, but you
don't want to
become
ANOREXIC
do you?"

What amuses me most about all this feedback is
if I once, ever, gave frank input to the
slenders about their bodies'
appearance, they would
summarily burst
into flames
and stalk
out of
the room.

In. A. Huff.

Hah.

Slenders.

Gotta love 'em..

This kvetching is exactly why the Buddha
cautioned against getting
caught up in praise
or blame..
