"To what does the soul turn that has no therapists to visit? It takes its trouble to the trees, to the riverbank, to an animal companion, on an aimless walk through the city streets, a long watch of the night sky. Just stare out the window or boil water for a cup of tea. We breathe, expand, and let go, and something comes in from elsewhere."

~ James Hillman ~

James Hillman isn't just speaking about therapists, he's also (for me) talking about speerchul groups of all stripes. So - replace 'therapists' with 'sanghas' or 'congregations' and that's the situation on the ground. Being a 'None' at heart, it's always (always) just a matter of time before I separate myself from whatever group I've gotten myself entangled with..

Boody teachers always talk about how important 'the sangha' is. Same for Christian priests and ministers. The group is the thing. Both traditions look askance at loners like me and wait with patient condescension for what they expected all along from us solitaries - a disastrous jumping of the tracks straight into a deep dark ditch.

They misinterpret.

What they see as a ditch is my spiritual home.
